松下沙花は、東京を拠点に、夢や記憶をテーマとした、モノプリントドローイング（版画）とペインティングを中心とした作品を制作しています。今回のポップアップ展示では、新作ペインティング作品を発表いたします。

松下は、近年は、夜の海の作品を中心に制作していました。海は、様々な都市で育ち、自身には故郷がないと感じている松下の「故郷に思いを馳せるということへの憧れ」と「故郷というものを捉えられない現実」の象徴として描かれてきました。それ以前の松下の作品は部屋の絵が多く、額装された絵、窓、椅子、テーブル、ベッド、鳥、馬といったモチーフが繰り返し登場しており、まるで舞台のセットのような作品が多くみられていました。
今回の作品を制作する際、松下は自身の「海」以前の作品を見返し、繰り返し描いていたモチーフについて考えるようになりました。現在も描き続けているものもあれば、全く描かなくなってしまったものもあります。過去の作品を振り返ることは、小さい頃の宝箱を開けるような気持ちで、懐かしく、センチメンタルな気持ちになると同時に、当時のことをよく思い出せないという、デジャヴに似ている感覚を覚えるそうです。
今回の展示では、松下は、数年前に描いたドローイングを元に、過去に繰り返し描いていたテーマやモチーフに再び向き合いました。思いの変化はあれど、昔よりも当時の感情を客観的に考えることができ、より丁寧で素直に描けているような気がすると松下は話します。

Based in Tokyo, Saka Matsushita’s works are centered on monoprint drawings and paintings with the theme of dreams and memories. She will be exhibiting new paintings In this pop-up exhibition at TRUNK HOTEL.
In recent years, Saka has mainly produced works of sea at night. The sea has been portrayed as a symbol of Saka’s feelings of “longing for a hometown" and "the reality of not being able to capture the idea of hometown," as she grew up in various cities and felt that she had nowhere to call “home”. Prior to the sea series, Saka’s works were often set in a room, and motifs such as framed paintings, windows, chairs, tables, beds, birds, and horses appeared repeatedly, giving the impression of stage sets.
When creating works for this exhibition, Saka began to look back at her works prior to the "sea series" and thought about the motifs she had repeatedly drawn. Some she still draws, while others had been completely gone from her mind. Looking back on past works is like opening a treasure chest of a childhood, she explains. The feeling of nostalgia and sentimentality bursts, yet at the same time, she cannot remember the subject so well anymore. Saka adds that this feeling is similar to deja vu.
In this exhibition, Saka revisited the themes and motifs she had repeatedly drawn in the past, by painting from the drawings she did a few years ago. Saka says that although there are changes in her mind and perspective, she can think more objectively about the emotions of the time, and feel that she can paint the subject in a more honest  and careful manner than before.

松下沙花（まつしたさか）
長崎生まれ。ニューヨーク、トロント、横浜育ち。Wimbledon School of Art (現ロンドン芸術大学 ウィンブルドンカレッジオブアート）の舞台衣装科卒。その後大学院で舞台美術を学ぶ。卒業後は ロンドンにてフリーのシアターデザイナーとして映画、舞台、インスタレーションプロジェクトの デザインを手がけた。現在は、舞台美術のプロセスを活かした、ナラティブなモノプリント版画やアクリルペインティング作品を制作し、国内外で定期的に個展を開催している。
